What Are They? Gala apples are a cross between the Golden Delicious and the Kidd's Orange Red. 
Origins/History: The Gala was developed in the 1930's by orchardist J.H. Kidd in New Zealand. 
Nutritional Value: Gala apples are a good source of Vitamin C which supports the immune system as well as a good source of fiber.  
How to cut/peel: Use a veggie peeler to remove the skin. Cut into quarter and remove the core.
Serving Suggestions: Eaten out of hand, in salads, in desserts. Galas are among the best apples for making applesauce and make excellent cider.
