Tango Mandarins are a triple threat: seedless, juicy and sweet/tart! They are medium in size with a squat shape and smooth skin. They have a thin orange rind that is easy to peel. They also have a juicy flesh that is seedless, and offers a sweet-tart flavor. These are excellent for eating out of hand as well as for juicing or for making jam. Each week we have limited availability from a partner farm that shares our commitment to producing legendary fruits.

Detail

Fruit: Mandarin/Tangerine
Variety: Tango
Farm: Rainbow Valley Orchard
From: California
What Are They? The fruit, called Tango, is the result of an induced mutation of W. Murcott mandarin. Originally from Morocco, W. Murcott mandarins have a deep orange color, easy-peel rind and tangy-sweet flavor – traits shared by the Tango.
Origins/History: Tango tangerines, also known as Tango mandarins, were the result of selective breeding by the University of California Riverside's Citrus Breeding Program. Botanically, they are classified as Citrus reticulata. Tango tangerines were developed from W. Murcott mandarins, in an effort to produce a seedless variety.
Nutritional Value: Tango mandarins are an excellent source of vitamin C and folate, and also contain dietary fiber, calcium, potassium, vitamin A, and beta carotene. Tango mandarins are a good source of antioxidants.
How to cut/peel: Easy to peel and the membranes separate easily.
Serving Suggestions: Tango tangerine can be used in both fresh and cooked applications. Whole segments can be used in sauces and salads, and chopped segments can be used in salsas, baked goods, and syrups. The juice and zest are ideal for cocktails, sangria, marinades, dressings, curds, and sauces. Tango mandarins will keep at room temperature but should be refrigerated for longer storage.

Lovely little things

As close to candy as one would wish in a citrus fruit.
These also survived the trip and the few that remain are still good.

Great taste with just the right amount of acidity to balance the sweetness. Loved them!

It takes two to tango

And so my taste buds danced happily with the sweet tango mandarins.

I love the Tangos

These mandarins are everything I hoped they would be. Absolutely delicious, seedless and easy to peel. When I peel one, my 17 year old Chihuahua will wake up from a deep slumber from the aroma because she knows a few sections are coming her way and she really loves them too.
