What Are They? The Midknight Valencia orange is a late-season, medium-large variety of citrus. It is virtually seedless and has an oblong shape. It ripens earlier than the Valencia orange and has thinner skin. 'Midknight' trees are slower growing than your typical Valencia tree and more susceptible to frost, which leads to smaller crops. But the results are special!
Origins/History: This small-yield, limited variety was originally cultivated in South Africa in the 1930s. Now it grows in the hills of Valley Center in the north of San Diego County.
Nutritional Value: Midknight Valencias are an excellent source of vitamin C, providing as much as 116 percent of daily recommended intake.
