Storage and Handling

Once your peaches, nectarines and/or pears arrive, the best thing to do is to take them out of the box and foam packaging and let them sit out at room temperature (55-78° F, not over 80° F) and out of direct sunlight.

Don't refrigerate your fruit until it's absolutely ripe and soft, if at all. Fruit that is refrigerated too soon will lose flavor and the texture may become mealy.

Check the peaches and nectarines a couple of times a day to see how they are ripening. They are best when they are soft to the touch; this is also when they are the most bruisable; so handle them with care. Here at Frog Hollow that's when we like them the best! These peaches are so juicy, the best way to eat them is over the sink!

Fruit that is truly ripe and ready to eat may not be cosmetically perfect. If there are any breaks in the skin this can develop into a brown or moldy spot. Cut those areas away and enjoy the rest of the fruit.
