<main-content>h1. What does farming organically really mean?

In general terms, it means fewer chemicals – no synthetic fertilizers and no synthetic pesticides.

At Frog Hollow, Farmer Al enriches the soil using compost (such as his own composted, overripe fruit), seaweed, fish and limestone.

In springtime, he preserves the water supply through pesticide avoidance, controlling pests, such as the awful peach twig borer, instead through a certified 3-part program:

Pest mating disruption reduces pest proliferation. Beneficial insects, such as a friendly type of microscopic parasitic wasp, further control harmful pests, and only natural, bacterial insecticides are sprayed in the orchards.

When summer time arrives, orchard weeds are controlled by hand. Hoeing the weeds, turning them back into the soil where they decompose, further enriches and sustains the orchard soils.

More specifically, farming organically means Frog Hollow strictly adheres to all requirements of the USDA National Organic Program (NOP). Frog Hollow is certified organic by California Certified Organic Farmers (CCOF), an NOP accredited certifying agency. To learn more about the USDA NOP, please visit HYPERLINK "http://www.ams.usda.gov/nop" www.ams.usda.gov/nop.

h2. So, what does all this mean to you?

It means Frog Hollow fruit - all of it is organic - is the most nutritious, tastiest fruit you’ll ever find! We hope your family enjoys it as much as ours.

h2. Why are some packaged products labeled differently than others?

The USDA NOP permits different labeling depending on the % of organically produced ingredients in a product.

If a product is labeled:

It means the product contains:

100% Organic

100% organically produced ingredients (not including water and salt).

Organic

At least 95% organically produced ingredients (excluding added water and salt), no sulfites, and up to 5% non-organically produced, allowed substances only.

Made with Organic Ingredients

At least 70% organically produced ingredients (excluding added water and salt), no sulfites, and up to 30% non-organically produced, allowed ingredients only.
