Dried Apricots

Frog Hollow Farm's dried apricots have a sweet and tangy flavor that keeps that fresh apricot taste after drying. Thick and chewy, the apricot medallions range from golden brown to deep mahogany due to the lack of sulfur additives. These dried apricots are a seasonal selection from the many varieties of apricots that we grow organically. The fruit’s brief harvest season is the source of an old Egyptian saying, “fel meshmesh” or “in the apricot,” used much like English speakers would say “once in a blue moon.” Something is “fel meshmesh” when it’s unlikely to happen because the time for it is so brief. Luckily when we dry apricots, the fleeting season extends all year round.

A dried piece of fruit is only as good as the fruit you start with. And with decades of experience growing legendary, organic fruit, Frog Hollow Farm dried fruit is pretty unbeatable. We’re hands-on every step of the way. Each tree in our 280-acre orchard is cared for and harvested by hand throughout its entire life to ensure the plumpest, healthiest fruit. When the fruit is optimally ripe, we hand-slice it (and in the case of peaches, also hand-peel it) right onto the drying trays. Once the fruit is dried, we hand-pack it right here on the farm without sulfur or other additives. We’ve been doing it that way for almost 25 years. We pride ourselves in finding a place for every piece of overripe fruit on the farm that we can, regardless of whether or not a grocery store would deem it pretty enough to eat out of hand. As you’ll often hear Farmer Al say, waste not! And the ripest fruit makes the sweetest dried fruit. As the water evaporates, the well-developed sugar content takes center stage. Not only is drying fruit a way to enjoy the summer harvest year-round, it’s part of our greater ecosystem of averting food waste. Let our dried fruit transport you. Enjoy each sweet, textured bite. And no matter what time of year, savor the taste of summer sunshine.

Food to Feel Good About

Frog Hollow Farm ensures that all of our fruit finds a home so that the precious resources it took to grow it are not wasted.

  • Our food waste aversion & upcycling initiative for our dried fruit saves the energy equivalent of 8.54 metric tons of CO₂, equivalent to taking 2 passenger vehicles off the road for 1 year or planting 128 trees as a carbon offset.

Good bud expensive

I’m trying out a variety of products from this farm and so far they’re very good. We particularly like the Hungarian shortbread torte that they sell and I’m trying out the citrus that’s coming in season. As far as the dried apricots go my wife likes them a lot because they’re chewy or a leathery texture. I find them a little difficult to chew. They’re kind of hard but to tasty. I prefer the organic moist and soft dried apricots I’ve purchased from Amazon.,just think the close to $20 shipping fee is unwarranted if I’m spending close to $200. I get all my food delivered to my house and most food purveyors offer free shipping over a certain price. I really like their apricot conserve but $15 for 6 ounces is quite expensive! I buy that intermittently at best. After after 3 or 4 pieces of toast the jar is finished so you do the math.
We’ll see how their citrus quality is since we’re in citrus season. I lived in CA on a property that had oranges, Clementines, mandarins and Meyer lemons in their orchards. So these better be good for $10 per pound or $30 for 3 lbs
