In this country, soil scientists, plant biologists, family farmers
and consumers understand the connections between the health of the
soil
and human health. We are discovering our nutritional connections
to healthy soil, which produces the food we eat.
Living
soil, teeming with life, insects, worms, oxygen and water, will
grow the nutritious healthy food needed for healthy people. Yet,
since the early part of this century, industrial agriculture has
been destroying the health and life of our most precious, most
fragile and most difficult to replace resource--the soil!
Now,
when we walk through the orchard, we see an abundance of plant and
insect life and countless birds. Quail and pheasant love it here
now. We see hawks perched in the treetops by day and barn owls by
night.
The ladybug population has exploded; lacewings abound.
Organic
Farming seeks to reverse the disastrous decline of the health of
our nation. As organic farmers our goals are healthy food, healthy
people, healthy communities and sustainable agricultural systems.
When
not working on the farm, delivering fruit or selling at the Farmers'
Markets, Al is busy working to promote sustainable agriculture through
organizations like CAFF
(Community Alliance with Family Farms) and CSA (Committee for Sustainable
Agriculture).
We are also trying to build community interest in saving farmland
from development in our home of Brentwood.
